Dimapur Slammers CC wins 6th Unity Cup

Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): Dimapur Slammers CC emerged as the winners of the 6th Unity Cup on February 3.

The Man of the final match was Vino who took 1 wicket and bowled 2 maiden overs to help Dimapur Slammers CC beat Dimapur Borlengri Knights CC by 7 wickets and 10 over remaining.

The winning team walked away with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with the running trophy while the runner-up received Rs 20,000 sponsored by DB Ghale and Family, Church Member of NBC Chümoukedima.

Among the individual awards, Apong of Dimapur Slammers CCwas named the best bowler while Bishnu of Borlengri Knight CC was adjudged the best batsman.

Imliwati of Big shots CC was awarded player of the tournament and John of Borlengri Knights CC was named Emerging Player of the tournament.

Organized by the Nepali Baptist Church Chümoukedima Sports Ministry at Chümoukedima Local Ground from January 16 to February 3, the 6th Unity Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament has 25 teams in participation.

Held under the theme ‘Solidarity for Peace,’ the tournament was aimed at developing and nurturing sporting skills of the youths. The Sports Ministry also aimed to make use of sports to strengthen friendship and to bridge the gap between cultures and communities.

Shiva Kumar BK was the guest of honor at the closing ceremony. He encouraged the youth to be the role model and backbone of the society. He also wished the organizers and players the very best in their future endeavor. Pastor of NBC Chümoukedima Robert Aley encouraged the players to stand firm in their commitment until the next tournament in 2022.
