Dimapur’s BSL-2 lab gets ICMR’s nod, to open within days

Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): The biosafety level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR) has got Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) approval and is to likely to be inaugurated within a few days time.


State’s Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) informed that Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom visited the lab on Monday for a final inspection of the ongoing installation works.

 

“The BSL-2 lab at CIHSR, Dimapur is on the verge of completion. The quality of the work will not be compromised because of that it is taking time. The inauguration will be done soon to cater to the needs of our people,” he later tweeted. 

 

Director CISHR, Dr Sedevi Angami also informed that the lab would be operational once ICMR is satisfied with the ‘test sample done with BSL-2 and  the results of which would be uploaded probably by tomorrow.’


As per the DIPR, the Minister along with by Advisor IPR, SCERT and VG, Toshi Wungtung, visited the processing room, the RNA extraction room, sample storage room kept at minus 80 degree Celsius, etc. under the guidance of Dr Sedevi and Dr Nito Yepthomi.
