Disaster management training for youth underway

Kohima: Training cum awareness campaign on disaster management for the youth member of 19 Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Wards started today at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima. The training will be held for three days, phase-wise for all the Wards falling under Kohima town which is being organized by the Civil Defence and Home Guards.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner and Controller, Civil Defence, Kohima, W. Honje Konyak appreciated the organizers for taking the initiative to train up the youths of all the 19 Wards. He said that disaster is something that cannot be avoided and we are not alarmed as yet because huge disaster has not come to us as it has in other parts of the world. He said that we have not experienced the trauma that others have done so. He urged upon one and all to change the lackadaisal attitude and be trained in disaster management so that we are aware of the safety measures and would not get confused when disaster strikes. He called upon all to compulsorily train up all the leaders and youths of the colony for preparedness to face consequences of disaster. The DC also said that trained personnel should be ambassadors in convincing the public that trainings in disaster management is of utmost importance.

Deputy Controller, Civil Defense and District Commandant, Home Guards, Kohima, Mulai Lamniah in his welcome address said that we are confronting disasters in our day to day life and we also have to deal with it individually. He said that being prepared for disasters has become the need of the hour. He also underlined the need to continually update ourselves in tackling emergencies.

Chairman, Bayavu Ward-2, Povotso Lohe spoke on behalf of the participants. The inaugural session was chaired by Company Commander, Home Guards, Kohima, Temjenwati.

On February 25, the Phase-II of the training will continue with participants from Midlane, Hospital Colony, Officers Hill, PWD, Upper Chandmari, Lower Chandmari and Porterlane  (Dzuvuru). On February 26, the Phase-III of the training will be held with participants from AG Colony, Ministers Hill, Lerie, NST, Agri, Forest, Electrical, Paramedical (Merhulietsa) and P.R. Hill.
