Dissent hits NPF Youth Wing

Dimapur, Oct 17 (MExN): Notwithstanding the reported CYF-NPF-PIL tug-o-war being resolved, the controversy has claimed two latest casualties in two NPF central youth wing leaders tendering their resignations over what they stated was the ‘rigid’ stand of the NPF Phek Youth.

“With regret, we tender this letter of resignation from the Working Presidentship and Convenor, Legal Cell, NPF Central Youth Wing Nagaland. It is with deep pain and anguish that we all have been wary observers to the distressful unfolding of events with the issue of Chakhesang Youth Day to be celebrated on 18th and 19th of October 2006, at Chozuba due to the rigid irrational opposition adopted by the NPF Phek Division” NPF Central Youth Wing’s Working president Kevechutso Doulo and Convenor of Legal Cell Neiko Kanuo stated in their resignation addressed to the State NPF President.

“It is most unfortunate that the NPF, Phek Division and its party leaders have gone against the wishes, desires and common interest of the youth in particular and Chakhesang community in general. The stiff stance taken by the party is destructive and divisive and contradicts the interest of the public and the Government. More so, it also violates the fundamental rights of citizens to peaceful assembly enshrined under the constitution of India. Therefore, our conscience does not permit us any longer to be part of a political party that stubbornly resist and deny the desire and collective interest of our people.  We believe that any political party no matter what their varied interests may be should respect the people’s conventions and civil societies. We believe that the public welfare and peoples interest is supreme” the two leaders maintained.

Meanwhile, even as the Chakhesang Public Organization felt necessary to postpone the October 18-19 Chakhesang Youth Front general Session, the CYF issued a rejoinder today repudiating and questioning the CPO’s stand.

Earlier, a joint press statement issued by the CPO outgoing and the president (elect) Vedayi Nyekha and Yesonu Veyie respectively had stated that in view of the “precarious situation” between the CYF and the Phek NPF Youth Wing, the CPO held opinion that “at this office transition period of the CPO, it is felt necessary to postpone” the CYF general session in the larger interest of the Chakhesang community.

“The duo has neither executive power nor empowered by any competent authority of the CPO to take this decision negating the CPO decision amicably arrived on 11th October 2006 and announced in the general body meeting of CPO held on 14th October 2006 at Pfutsero. We are amused at how the outgoing and the incoming Presidents alone can take the decision which is a travesty to the CPO’s decision and the good will of the Chakhesang general public” a CYF rejoinder from its president Mosonyi Domeh and secretary Thepuphi Kapuh said.

The CYF leaders noted with “shame, embarrassment and extremely mortified” to observe the duo’s statement in its emergency meeting of the CYF functionaries and advisors on the October 17.   “Despite all the negative statements that have appeared in the recent past at the insistence and masterminding of certain political party in our district, the CYF is neither cowed nor browbeaten to enjoy the Fundamental Right of the citizens to peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the law of the land. We gratefully appreciate the CYF Units for the whole hearted and painstaking support to ensure the grand success of the Youth Day coinciding with the first decade of its formation” it added.

Meanwhile the Razeba Public Organization has expressed support to the initiatives of the CPO “for amicable settlement to withdraw” the PIL. The RPO, through its President Bonyi Zholia and General Secretary Vekhocho, also urged the contending parties to accept the decision of the CPO in the interest of the community and “wish the 5th General session of CYF a grand success”.
