District Business Chambers remind Govt on deadline

Dimapur, April 30 (MExN): Nine District Chambers of Commerce have issued a joint reminder to the Nagaland Government to honour its assurance regarding the nomination of their representatives to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

In a statement issued on April 29, the chambers warned that they would implement an indefinite shutter down in their respective districts if the State Government fails to respond positively within the agreed two-week period.

The reminder follows a temporary suspension of the planned statewide shutdown initially scheduled for April 24. The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) had earlier deferred the protest following an invitation from the State Government for dialogue and its request for two weeks’ time to address the issue.

The demand for representation in the ULBs was termed “non-negotiable” by the CNCCI and the nine aggrieved district chambers—Dimapur, Zunheboto, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Phek, Wokha, Tseminyu, Peren, and Meluri—who insist it is vital to protect the interests of the business community and consumers alike.

In a joint statement, the business bodies said they are prepared to act if the government does not fulfil its assurance within the stipulated timeframe.

PDCCI reiterates
In a separate statement, the Phek District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PDCCI) also reiterated its demand and stated that if the demands are not met, it would exercise its democratic authority and impose an indefinite business shutdown within Phek District.
