District Handloom Expo in Noklak underway

Noklak, March 25 (MExN): Superintendent of Police, Noklak, Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS inaugurated the District Handloom Expo, NHDP at Public Ground, Noklak on March 25. 

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, the SP said Ellon-niu products (bags, shawl, waistcoat etc) of Khiamniungan are very unique and encouraged the gathering to get the products the Geographical Indicator tag. She urged them to continue to work hard and produce enough to create demands for Ellon-niu products in the market, which will empower the women and farmers and uplift the economy, a DIPR report stated. 

While encouraging the women folk to take up handloom, Dr Kaur advised the men folks to also join in handloom. She encouraged them to make use of social media for promotion and marketing. She also advised them to get a registered society in textiles department and get weaver's card. She also encouraged them to diversify the products through products like bedsheets, pillow covers, curtains etc. it was also informed that there will be a training of digitisation of the same in June month at Noklak. 

Functional Manager, SDIC Noklak, P Nyeipa Phom and President, Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam, Newkai also spoke during the occasion.

The District Handloom Expo, NHDP is being organised by the Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland and funded by Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The District Handloom Expo will continue at Noklak till March 29.
