Kohima, September 12 (MExN): Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA), Tuensang District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA), and Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) organized programmes in their respective districts on September 12.
In Longleng, LDLSA handed over compensation to two victims under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme 2012 at District Court. Additional Deputy Commissioner Longleng, Temsuwati handed over an amount of Rs. 4 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh each to the victims, informed a press release from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA). Panel Lawyer LDLSA, A. Mane Phom highlighted about the cases, while Assistant Public Prosecutor, Abraham spoke on proper utilization of the funds.
Meanwhile, TDLSA organised half yearly meeting cum workshop on basic laws of PLVs at conference hall of Hotel Navin, Tuensang. N. Kano, Judicial Magistrate First Class and Secretary TDLSA encouraged the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) to continuously work for the downtrodden people emphasising on the implementation of NALSA Schemes.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, Master Trainer, NSLSA said that various departments, authorities and NGOs should be identified to let the benefits reach the actual beneficiaries. She reminded that PLVs should be pro-active to collect information, plan and implement the schemes and spread awareness to the general public, target group or victims of any kind. The Master Trainer also urged to assist and link the beneficiaries/victims in effective prevention, rehabilitation and elimination wherever necessary.
Yimtsusangla Chang, Retainer lawyer TDLSA, highlighted the basic laws from the booklets and pamphlets which are to be used during ‘Door to Door’ campaign to be conducted on September 23, 2017. Briefing the PLVs on how to approach people during the campaign, she also informed on the number of households to be covered by each group/individual and reporting system.
PLV Pukho Meyo and PLV Yemlongchaba shared their experience and success stories of various NALSA Schemes. They encouraged the fellow PLVs to be more committed in rendering their services to the poor and needy.
In Kohima, KDLSA organized legal awareness programme on NALSA Scheme and Consumer Rights at Nerhema Village Council Hall. Victo Sema, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary KDLSA, highlighted the purpose of the programme and the aims and objectives of NSLSA. Speaking on Legal Services to Victim of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace Scheme 2015, Nancy Lotha, Panel Lawyer KDLSA, stressed on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the importance, provisions and punishments of the Act. She also informed on awareness programmes rendered to different sections of the society.
Speaking on the Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes Scheme, 2015, Hisinlo Himb, Panel Lawyer, KDLSA explained the meaning of poverty alleviation and different types of poverty such as absolute, relative and situational poverty, the release said. He also highlighted different government schemes.
Apila Sangtam, Panel Lawyer KDLSA, spoke on Child Friendly Legal Service to Children and their Protection Scheme, 2015. She explained the right of the child to survival, development, protection and participation rights and special provision for women and children. She also covered other child related Acts such as Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. Wapangienla Kichu, Panel Lawyer KDLSA, spoke on Legal Services to the Mentally Ill and Mentally Disabled Persons Scheme, 2015, while Thejapfutuo, Panel Lawyer KDLSA spoke on Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
