Diverse cultures comes alive at Sazolie College

Sazolie College, Jotsoma, held its 10th Cultural Day on August 31. The event, jointly organised by the Cultural Committee and Students’ Council of the College, is held annually with the objective to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of different tribes in Nagaland and also to create awareness among the students to preserve the rich cultural heritage. 


Pelezotuo Ngukha, Asst. Professor, Department of Education, Sazolie College, speaker of the programme spoke on “Our Culture Our Identity”.

The highlight of the programme was the tribe wise cultural presentation and competition. The Chakhesang presented a folk song and folk dance. The Lotha presented the story of Ranphan with a dance. The Ao presented a warrior dance and two songs, all three presentations jointly known as Temeyoktep. The combined tribes consisting of Pochury, Nepali, Zeliang, Mao, Poumei, Kuki and Rongmei, sang a Nepali folk song. The Angami presented Puliebabdze Dze. The Eastern Naga tribes presented the story of the Ahom king and Watlong Anghya. Sumis presented the origin of the Sumi Dance. 


A display of modern attires of all the tribes was another highlight of the programme. The Ao won the first position, followed by the Angami and the Eastern Naga tribes as second and third position respectively. This was stated in a press release issued by Media Cell, Sazolie College.
