Seasoned Christian rock band from Nagaland, Divine Connection have been on a tour that has seen them play at music festivals in Kerala and Jodhpur. Setting off from Nagaland on March 8, the tour has seen them play at the ‘Cult A Away’ Festival in Trivandrum on March 9 and at two WZCC organized gigs in Jodhpur on March 10 and 11.

The ‘Cult A Away’ festival saw Mumbai based Electronic/Rock pioneers, Pentagram and veteran rock gods of the Indian Scene Agni along with Divine connection blitz their way through the crowd. Obed Kath, the vocalist for Divine Connection while talking to the Morung Express stated that it was a great experience for them to share the stage with such fantastic musicians. He also lauded the organizers of the festival for putting out a thoroughly professional show.

The band also played 2 WZCC gigs in Jodhpur on March 10 and 11. Obed said that it was amazing to be in the city with its vibrant culture, beautiful natural scenery and historical monuments. He added that the response from the crowd has been very positive.

Divine Connection were the winners of the MTV Rock On (Desi Rock) in 2010 and have performed at various cities in the country including shows in Thailand. Their debut album titled ‘El-Roi’ was released in 2008. Their debut music video titled ‘Its Love’ aired on VH1 in November 2012. Despite positive reviews, the band did come under criticism by some fans over their generic and compositional leanings.  In the midst of these criticisms and a lineup change, the band has managed to pull it together and do what a rock band is supposed to do; throw caution to the wind and let the amps do the talking.

On any upcoming albums, Obed commented that the band would surely be working on new materials this year. However, he refrained from setting any particular timeline for an album release. He added, “I don’t want to give away too much right now, but we will surely be working on some new stuff.”

With the underground music scene booming and with many bands from the state currently achieving national and even international recognition, Divine Connection seem to be headed in the right direction.
