The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has appointed 20 lawyers belonging to the North East, including two from Nagaland, for all districts of Delhi to assist crimes victims from the region on legal matters.

These lawyers will assist NE crimes victims in legal matters such as FIR, Legal advice, Reports etc in police stations & courts and they will be paid Rs 1500 per visit as honorarium, a post by the Nodal Officer for North East People, Delhi IGP Robin Hibu IPS informed on its Facebook page.

Stating that often the crime victims are left helpless when they reached police stations and courts for justice due to non-availability of person to consult on legal matters, court procedures etc, the Nodal Officer said that the empanelment of NE lawyers from Delhi will bring relief to the “helpless victims.” He said this has been one of the “utmost requirements” faced by people of North East residing outside the region.

The officer further informed that to avail the services, one can contact the lawyers through Delhi Police Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER) office, Delhi Police for North East Region (DPNER) members or through 1093 in case of need in police stations or other legal matters.

While the names, mobiles numbers and emails are provided on its Facebook page, Hibu appealed the public to call them or text them only “for legal assistance.”  The information has been conveyed to DCPs, ACPs, and SHOs of Delhi Police for information and necessary action,” he added.
