
Kohima, August 16 (MExN): All the District Legal Services Authority across Nagaland commemorated the 71st Independence Day by releasing legal literacy pamphlets translated in local dialects and providing pamphlets and legal counseling to visitors on August 15.
Kiphire: The Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) in collaboration with District Jail, Kiphire organized fund raiser for the prisoner’s welfare cum legal literacy stall at public ground, Kiphire. Another legal awareness stall was opened at Pungro sub-division under the KDLSA where the chief guest SDO (Civil) Pungro, Samuel Thyug released the legal literacy pamphlets translated in Yimchunger dialect by Kiutsuthong, Panel Lawyer KDLSA on Legal Aid and Legal Services and Consumer Protection Rights.
Wokha: The Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) opened legal literacy stall and provided free pamphlets and counseling at local ground, Wokha. Minister of Geology and Mining and Border Affairs, Mmhonlumo Kikon inaugurated the stall and released the legal literacy booklets translated in Lotha dialect by Rev. Dr. E. Nrio Ezung on Motor Vehicle Act, National Food Security Act 2013, Protection of Children from Sexual offences, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen, the Arms Act, 1959, The Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme, 2012 and Consumer Protection Act. WDLSA also visited the Fondling Harbour Children’s Home Wokha and held a brief programme with the inmates. In another brief ceremony, District and Session Judge and WDLSA Chairman, Khrulto Koso handed over compensation award of Rs. 1 lakh to one victim under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme, 2012 on August 16.
Dimapur: The Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) set up legal stall at DDSC, Dimapur, where various legal pamphlets and fliers were distributed to the public. The DDLSA team headed by Hukato Swu, Chairman DDLSA cum Principal District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur, Ajongba Imchen, Secretary DDLSA cum Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur and Panel Lawyers visited and interacted with the inmates of Central Jail and District Jail, Dimapur. Panel Lawyer DDLSA, Luzukhu spoke on prisoners’ rights and Panel Lawyer DDLSA, Visheli spoke on free legal aid.
Zunheboto: The Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) conducted counseling for legal aid seekers at the legal stalls. Minister for National Highway and Political Affairs, G. Kaito Aye gave away certificate of merit in different competitions organized by ZDLSA during the year 2017.
Meanwhile, Phek District Legal Services Authority, Longleng District Legal Services Authority, Mon District Legal Services Authority, Tuensang District Legal Services Authority, Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority, and Peren District Legal Services Authority set up stalls to impart legal consultation and hand out pamphlets on various acts and schemes.
