DMC issues order for new taxi parking

DIMAPUR, OCT 15 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has ordered all regional and tourist taxis to shift to the new Taxi Parking area behind Town Hall. This move of the DMC is in pursuance of its resolution adopted at a Board Meeting held on September 17, 2005.

Issuing an order to this effect, DMC Chairperson Y. Vikheho Awomi stated that shifting of the taxi stand was being done ‘purely’ in the interest of the public in consultation with the district administration and traffic police in order to streamline the disorganized taxi parking system in Dimapur. In its order, the Chairperson directed that henceforth, no taxi would be allowed to move about in the town in ‘search of passengers’.

“All taxis shall compulsorily report to the new Taxi Parking Complex before leaving for Kohima or any other place”, the Chairperson stated in the order. The DMC order also cautioned that any taxi found to be picking up passengers from any place without reporting to the taxi parking shall be penalized.

Further, the concerned taxi union/association have been directed to furnish the registration number of all taxis in Dimapur along with a photocopy of the driver’s driving license to the office of the DMC within 15 days from the date of the publication of this order.

It was also informed that the aforementioned order would come into effect from Monday October 17 onwards and defaulters would be severely penalized as per the law.
