Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): Footwear dealers in Dimapur have opposed the alleged move of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to levy toll tax on footwear.
22 footwear dealers in Dimapur in a memorandum to the DMC Administrator claiming that the Council had moved to levy toll tax on footwear even after the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), appealed that the toll tax on footwear be revoked.
Arguing that with the coming of GST, all taxes have been “subsumed”, the footwear dealers insisted that the imposition of toll tax would amount to extra taxation and an extra burden on the dealers and the consumers.
As such, the footwear dealers requested that the DMC rethink the matter and revoke it in the general interest of all.
