DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 6 (MExN): The amended Motor Vehicle (MV) Act with enhanced penalties will come into force within Dimapur district from the month of October.

Informing this, a press release from the Dimapur Traffic Police today said that traffic officers will be enforcing the said amended act in letter and spirit. “It is therefore reminded to all concerned to be aware and conversant with the amended Motor Vehicle Act so as to avoid conflict with the law,” the police informed.

It may be noted that the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act, 2019 was notified by the Government of Nagaland on November 12, 2020.

The Dimapur traffic police further informed the public to visit its official facebook page and twitter handle to access the complete list of offences and penalties under the amended act.

It meanwhile also informed that the Supreme Court has prohibited the use of any Visual Light Transmission (VSL) percentage or any other material upon the safety glasses, windscreens (front and rear) and side glasses of all vehicles throughout the country.

“Police or any other authorized persons are to penalize/challan owners of such vehicles for violation of Rules 92 and 100 of the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 as amended from time to time and remove the ‘black films’ from the offending vehicles,” it informed.

The Dimapur traffic police notified that they will start checking tinted glasses/black films and use of unauthorized flasher lights/blinkers at regular intervals and offending vehicles will be penalized under relevant sections of the MV Act.
