The Nagaland Minister for Housing & Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum today asked the student organizations, particularly the Ao Students' Conference (AKM), not to deviate from their objective.

In Nagaland, they are a countless organization with goods objectives but there are also lots who have withdrawn from their objectives, he said.

The minister was speaking at the valedictory guest at concluding session of 68th Ao Students' Conference’s (AKM) general conference here at Khar village in Mokokchung District.

A former secretary of the apex Ao students’ body, Ozukum further noted that AKM as a matured organization needs good leadership and urged  whoever enters its office should be humble themselves and exit the office with good remarks in the interest of the student community and the people of Nagaland.

Meanwhile, dwelling on the issues of self-reliance and self-sufficient, he asserted that for him, it denotes not only dignity of labour “but it is the solution to all roots of evils."

Ozukum further lamented that Nagas for too long ( around 12 years) has not produced even a single IAS or IPS officer and challenged the gathering to give interest in this career to serve the people.

He also batted for preserving one's mother and urged the AKM to initiate projects which will penetrate the mass in promoting and preserving the same.

"Conducting seminar will not be efficient enough but initiate steps that are impactful," he said, further questioning the Ao people how far they are satisfied with the Ao literature.

The community should ponder seriously whether it needs more active support and participation from the people to enrich the heritage further, he added.

Ozukum also called upon the Ao community not to dwell in the past glory too much because it won't bring any good.
“Besides, those legacies are the achievement of our pioneers not by us,” he said. Instead, he challenged the students community to take the legacies as motivational step to achieve further goal for the Naga society.
