Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• Yes, I think in fact I believe that the senior politicians should give chance to the younger generations. I want to see active youths doing something for the people.
• Yes, young politician can built our land far Better.
• 4 a CHANGE........YES. So far Nagaland has been pretty the same year after year with the same Old Folks.......
• There is no other choice. The present lot of politicians have proved that they have no concern for the public welfare, so the next best thing is to hope that the younger politicians have the decency to do what is right.
• The young politicians are better educated, they have more exposure to the outside world, they are better equipped to do what is needed. So I feel the young politicians are going to be the difference in Nagaland. But, it is yet to be seen whether they will deliver the goods or not. I only wished there was more variety of young politicians because this present lot are descendants of powerful families.
• Yes, young minds definitely has new vision.
• To some extent...but they maybe sucked into the system later one.
• Yes, If congress come in power by any means young politician will be difference.
• Yes because we need oriented and well versed young leader for a change.
• Right now we are at the bottom of the pit, so anything different from this present work ethics from our elected representatives, will make a difference to our society. We are sick and tired of these leaders who only think about themselves and their families. I hope that the younger politicians will perform much better than this present lot.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• It is very discouraging to see that only children of politicians and bureaucrats are being considered for this forthcoming election. Even more discouraging is that these young wannabe politicians are found wanting. They lack involvement in public life and have not shown any keen interest or any concern for public welfare, and, now they could possibly become our leaders. Nagaland is really in the doldrums. This is a negative trend because it indicates that Nagaland is in the hands of a few families, while the rest suffers. This also proves that only people with money power are contesting, and this is very bad for democracy.
• No, because in Nagaland youth are not at all encourage on the grounds of politics....THEY LACK POLITICAL MOTIVATION.
• Unfortunately our present set of young politicians do not have any vision or any principles. They are only following the practices of their older politicians. They are committed only to promote their own interests. Our election system in Nagaland is based on goondaism and has nothing to do with the issues of the public.
• I don't think young people can make a good leader. If you mean young in a sense above 40years.. Well, thats different. Please state the age of the young leaders you're talking about. I would never trust a 25 years unmarried young C.M. Nagaland's population would explode after 5years. I'll prefer a young 40years C.M. instead.
• Rather younger ones are playing with money, they have no vision only after power. A person with a vision is the need of the hour.
• Absolutely not!!! its not age but love for God and love for people and commitment that matters. so i dont believe that being young only and having some bright ideas collected from some other source and making some amazing announcements for the future would make any difference. saying that in hindi would be BOLNE MAI AUR KARNE MAI BAHUT BAHUT FARQ HAI...NA???
• It is so disappointing. We keep talking about new leaders, but we don’t get new leaders, we only get sons of bureaucrats and politicians, who will be nothing more than remote-controlled by their parents. So how can we expect anything different from them? They will only follow their parent’s footsteps.
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• We cannot be sure whether young politicians are going to be different or not as the elder politicians aren’t showing any good example to the younger generation.
• Depends on whose backing these young chaps r campaigning. If at all elected...they must work 4 the welfare of so many youths without work.
• Veteran politicians should not incite the young minds in case these young candidates are elected. Corruption n unemployment should be the backing stone of campaign.
• Politicians are just like us with limitations; an imperfect being, subjected to death. Regardless of ages, a politician will always be a politician. If we want to see the young politician to bring drastic change/ rely on them, we the public ought to burry our GREED first!
• What changes does we expect when the young politicians too spent the same amount as older politicians during the election.
• The words here should be 'capable and committed young leaders with a wider vision'... It really does not matter if you are young or not if during most times you were just someone who minded your own business and then only goes into elections because of familial influence or wealth, but in no way have participated and contributed anything for the general populace besides lacing your own income.. You give this dummy or puppet young people a chance and they will fleece us just like how the seniors and veteran politicians have been doing... The thing that is necessary is that any potential candidate should have already contributed, however insignificant it might seem, to Naga people as a whole, as they will if given a chance, make decisions that effect not just their village or their constituency but Nagaland as a whole..
• They have a larger role to play than just being politicians.
• It doesn't matter with the age, young or old, we only need capable and committed leaders (like someone said above). But there's much to loose doing business with a young corrupt leaders than its with the old and matured. We can't predict the limits a young corrupt leader would go to gain what he wants if chosen to power(I’m not saying that every young leader is corrupt or would grow up to be corrupt if chosen), compared to the old and matured who thinks about what the society would say behind him about Him and his family. If it comes to choosing between a capable young man and a capable old man, I’ll choose the old leader.
