DPC, KPC discuss issues confronting the fraternity

Dimapur, April 10 (MExN): An interactive meeting was held between Kohima Press Club (KPC) and Dimapur Press Club (DPC) at the premises of Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on April 9.  

The meeting, hosted by DPC, was convened on the initiative of the KPC as part of the club’s program to reach out to other press clubs in the state to strengthen fraternal ties.

  During the meeting, KPC president Xavier Rutsa and DPC president Moa Longkumer highlighted the activities of their respective clubs.  

Among other things, the house discussed several matters pertaining to the welfare of the press fraternity in the state as well as issues confronting the fraternity.  

After a thorough deliberation, a set of resolutions was jointly adopted by the members of the two clubs. These include, to jointly observe the annual National Press Day on November 16 by all the press clubs of the State in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR); to approach the DIPR/State government to include at least one member each from Kohima Press Club, Dimapur Press Club and Mokokchung Press Club in the State Level Press Accreditation Committee in consultation with the respective clubs; to press for recognition of senior journalists for accreditation who have been active in field for 10 or more years in addition to allotted numbers of accreditation; to approach the DIPR/state government to issue Press Stickers for vehicles to working journalists duly authorized by the department’s Director on production of legitimate press ID Card.  

Reports of impersonation by some non-working journalists was also seriously taken-up during the meeting, and the house appealed the public to inform the respective club in the district for any clarification.  

Meanwhile, KPC advisor Kopelo Krome said that such interaction between the Press Clubs of different districts is a good initiative to get to know one another better as they are all interlinked through their profession and such meetings will open up doors for better coordination.  

“Coming together in such interactive platform also displays that our Press fraternity is a growing fraternity,” he said and further lauded the KPC and DPC executives and members for setting aside a day for the meeting.  

Later, DPC general secretary, Paudi Renta delivered the concluding remarks. Altogether, 13 members from KPC and 9 from DPC attended the meeting.
