Yorübami Women Welfare Society building inaugurated

Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) former speaker Dr Chotisuh Sazo today inaugurated Yorübami Women Welfare Society (YWWS) building at Yoruba village near Chozuba in Phek district.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Dr Sazo said that the inauguration of the YWWS building was not just about creating asset, but a celebration of strength, determination, and progress.”

“Let this new building not just be walls and a roof, but a beacon of hope and empowerment,” he said adding “May it serve as a space where ideas grow, skills flourish, and lives transform.”

Dr Sazo commended YWWS for its commendable work in empowering women, fostering self-reliance and strengthening the community from the grassroots level.

Dr Sazo also lauded Yorübami women for bringing forward many leaders politically, socially, and religiously including late Vamuzo Phesao (former Chief Minister of Nagaland) who hail from Yoruba.

Meanwhile, he stressed on the need to choose the right leader who can stand with the public in both good and bad times.

Each one of you has a vital role to play in uplifting our community, he said.

Highlighting the progress of women in various sectors Dr Sazo said that women are entering into entrepreneurial venture, leadership role and supporting families economically. “Looking at where we stand today, it is clear that women have come a long way,” he said adding that more girls are now attending school and pursuing higher studies than ever before.

In social life, he said that women have been raising their voices, standing up for justice and redefining societal norms.

There is also increase in number of women participation in decision-making processes in the local governance and driving community development, he noted.

“The role of women in uplifting society is immense. In education, women are educators, mentors, and advocates for future generations. In the economy, they are contributing as farmers, entrepreneurs, artisans, and professionals. Their touch is visible in every aspect of growth and community development, Dr Sazo said.

To further uplift our economy and ensure sustainability, we must blend tradition with innovation, he stated and challenged the women folk to improvise “our traditional ways of farming, using modern techniques while preserving our heritage.”

He also encouraged Yorübami women to intensify fruit and vegetable cultivation to boost rural economy.

Earlier, YWWS chairperson Kiivesetalü Lohe shared greetings and acknowledged all the concerned individuals and groups towards the completion of the building project. The programme was chaired by Sayinülü Nyekha.
