Guwahati, July 13 (MExN): One person was arrested with about 4.7 kg opium from Padatik Express (train No.12378 DN) at New Jalpaiguri station on July 9 around 8:30 pm. The accused has been identified as Ranjit Paul, aged about 56 years. The checking was jointly conducted by Narcotic officials/Siliguri and RPF officers & staff of RPF/Post, New Jalpaiguri, informed a press release from Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NF Railway. The recovered opium worth around Rs.16, 45, 000 was seized by Narcotic officials and the accused was taken into custody, it said. In this regard, NCB/Siliguri registered a Case No. 31/NCB/KOL/2018 u/s 8 (C) & 18 (B) NDPS Act. In another case on July 12 about 1:00 am, Asst Sub Inspector KK Biswas along with staff of RPF Post, Agartala (Lumding Division) recovered seven bags containing total 55 packets of ganja weighing around 110 kg at platform No. 2, Agartala railway station. The recovered ganja valued at around Rs. 6, 60,000 was handed over to the Superintendent of Excise, Agartala, Tripura. On July 6 around 2:30 pm, RPF Sub Inspector AK Das and Constable Hemanta Das of RPF/Post/Guwahati, while checking at Guwahati railway station, arrested one person with recovery of a mobile phone, which was snatched from a woman near Panbazar FOB (Foot Over Bridge), Guwahati. The accused has been identified as Monowar Ali (25). He along with the recovered mobile phone was handed over to OC/Panbazar PS against registered case No. 397/18 dated 06.07.2018 u/s 392 IPC, the release informed.
