With the lockdown extended by 2 weeks nationwide, District Task Force (DTF) Kiphire held an emergency meeting and discussed on various parameters of guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at the DC's Conference on Saturday.

Addressing the DTF meeting Sarita Yadav said that though the lockdown has been extended, Nagaland has been designated as ‘green zone' and certain areas of activities will be permitted to function according to the guidelines issued by the government. The meeting, she said, was convened to seek the opinion of the civil societies and members of DTF.

Movement of stranded citizens

On this, the DC informed that she was directed by the Chief Secretary to seek the opinion of the civil societies and members of DTF with regard to the movement of stranded students and people of the district from Kohima and Dimapur who want to go back to their respective districts and towns.

In this regard, Kiphire Chief Medical Officer Dr E Motsuthung Patton suggested that stranded students and people be allowed to enter the district on condition that they be screened and put home quarantine for 14 days. The suggestion was also endorsed by United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP).

As such, the DC directed the civil society organizations to submit the names of all those who wish to travel back to the district in order to facilitate better and effective management.

The DC also urged upon the civil societies to advice citizens to desist from travelling by foot as it will defeat the very purpose of the lockdown.

Initiatives for continuity in education

Briefing the DTF members about the initiatives taken by the Education Department to compensate for the time lost during the lockdown Kiphire District Education Officer, Deenpandu said digital lessons for classes 8,9,10, and 12 have started through mediums like Doordarshan, YouTube and radio. For those students who do not have access to televisions or internet facilities, he said that Village Councils has been asked to make arrangements for students to make use of Village Council Halls while maintaining social distancing.

The DC advised the Education Department to put things in place to help students during this lockdown period.
Meanwhile, the DC informed the house that the guidelines have permitted agriculture activities with strict adherence to social distancing. She requested citizens and civil society to continuously extend support towards the district administration once people start moving.

Further, she informed that all existing guidelines with regard to the lockdown that were issued on April 20 will continue to remain operative till the issuance of fresh guidelines.
