DIMAPUR, APRIL 10 (MExN): In view of the concerns expressed by the North East student community in Delhi over the compulsory courses on Hindi and MILs, the Pro Vice Chancellor of Delhi University today announced the University’s decision to address the issue. He addressed to a protesting crowd that the University has taken the decision to introduce a paper “literature in English” in lieu of Hindi, MIL, Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit under the foundation course.
The North East student’s held a mass protest today at the University of Delhi from 1pm to 4 pm. There were about 2500 student protestors from different north east students organizations based in Delhi.
Student organizations from all the North East states including Sikkim took part in the protest. The protestors gathered at the Arts faculty before proceeding towards the Vice-Chancellors office at get no.1. A press note by J Maivio, Vice President of the Naga Student’s Union, Delhi stated that the student protestors waited for several hours for the VCs office to directly address them. In the absence of the VC, the pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pachuri invited a delegation of student leaders into the VC’s office for deliberation.
The press note stated that after the meeting, the Pro VC addressed the protesters and announced the University’s decision. It further added that the protest was peacefully called off after the announcement.
