DUDA, AH&VS clarify on import of pigs from Punjab

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 19 (MExN): The Departments of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) and the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH & VS) issued a clarification on Wednesday on the issue of importing 8000 live pigs from Punjab annually.

According to a joint press release issued by DUDA director, KS Anden Konyak and AH& VS director, Dr Aomangyang Walling, the news report of importing of 8000 pigs at the rate of Rs 200 crores per annum has been “wrongly stated and published in the media without the knowledge of the two departments.”

The clarification comes in the back drop of opposition from different organizations questioning the state government on the wisdom of importing live pigs from outside state instead f pursuing avenues on how to rear it locally.
