Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), Member Secretary and State Nodal Officer for National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) K Hukato Chishi, IFS today said, “We can have clean air in our state by collectively putting little effort as the only factors contributing to air pollution are dust and emission from vehicles.”

He was delivering a speech during the 29th Classic Club Foundation Day and inauguration of vertical garden at Classic Island in Kohima on October 2.

Chishi said, the effort to keep our air clean has been brought about at the national level and National Clean Air Programme has come about after the mandate given by the Prime Minister of India through the ministry of Environment and Forest and climate change that all the citizens should have the right to clean air.

With regard to Nagaland, the Secretary informed that, only two districts in the state, Dimapur and Kohima have Respirable Dust Sampler (RDS) to analysis data of air quality. These data are further sent to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). He however informed that the air quality data in both the two districts are higher than the permissible rate.

In Nagaland as far as pollution control board is concerned, he cited that there are no big industries which produce chemicals and pollute the air. Therefore, it was on the easier side to bring about change through small efforts.

“Need to do our bit, although not in big ways to contribute to issues and concerns related to the environment. If we all come together and put little bit of effort, we can proudly say that we don't have air pollution in the state,” Chishi said.

He further said that although the vertical garden is not a mega structure, it significantly contribute to the mission of ‘clean air.’

Dr Chotisuh Sazo, Life Member of Classic Club while giving the Foundation Day Lecture opined that love, moral values, social concerns have been values of the club and it is a day to celebrate the strengths of the club which were bounded by shared values and a common goal towards making positive difference to the society.

These values and etiquettes, he said needs to be inculcated to the younger upcoming generation for posterity. Sazo added that the club may have begun with just an idea and dream. “It was a seed planted by the person who gave the seed, and today it has grown as a tree to provide shed.”

Sazo also reminisce the numerous activities and works that were done by the club and paid respect to the members who passed away recently. He said that the foundation day is a day to refresh our commitment and goals with each other and further look forward to the journey.
