Dziesetuonuo Linyü

Kohima, May 22 (MExN): Dziesetuonuo Linyü’s journey to the top is nothing short of a fairy tale. She lost her father when she was just 10 years old and had to live with her grandmother, Neilhoungu-ü along with her two brothers because their mother could no longer support them. The 18 year old is the topper in this year’s HSSLC (Arts stream) from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
Hailing from L. Khel, Kohima Village and daughter of late Vilakholie Linyü and Keviyietuo-ü Linyü, Dziesetuonuo did her High School from Khedi Baptist School, Kohima where she passed her matriculation with distinction in Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English. After her HSLC, Dziesetuonuo had wanted to pursue the Science stream, however her uncles who are also her mentors and supports her as well as her brothers’ education asked her to join the Arts stream.
Being the only girl in the family, Dziesetuonuo didn’t have any specific study routine, as she had to help her aging grandmother in household chores. As such, she studied whenever she had the time. She said, “I was surprised to see my name on the top list, I knew I had done well and I did expect a top 5 finish but to be the top 1 means the world to me. I owe all my success to God, my grandmother, my uncles, relatives and my well wishers who have supported me this whole time financially, materially and spiritually.”
Appreciating her obedience, hard work and expressing delight at her success, her uncles, Vimelie Linyü, who is a Junior Engineer in the Department of Urban Development and Dr. Kevi Linyü, a gynecologist in Oking Hospital said, “She wanted to study Science but we asked her to take up Arts because most of the students who score well in their HSLC opt for Science but we felt Arts stream also has a lot to offer.” They also shared that Dziesetuonuo’s grandmother was her main supporter, who taught the children the basic principles of life.
“We believe that this is a sign from Heaven that God indeed helps those who help themselves, and we hope that her success will inspire many students like her. She still has a long way to go. She needs to work harder if she has to achieve something for herself, her family and the society,” they stated.
In her message to the younger students, Dziesetuonuo said, “Everything is in God’s hand, and when one makes God their solid rock, even if our dreams are high, when we work hard and dedicate ourselves in achieving them putting our trust in God, He makes things happen”. Interestingly her elder brother Ruokuozalhou who had to skip a year in his studies also cleared his HSSLC (Science stream) with four distinctions this year.
Dziesetuonuo intends to pursue her studies till her post graduation and compete in the civil service exams. Their youngest brother Thejakhrielie who cleared his HSLC with a good percentage hopes to follow in the footsteps of his brother and sister.
