East Garo Hills extends prohibition and night curfew till July 7

The District Magistrate of East Garo Hills has extended lockdown and night curfew in the entire district under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and the Regulation 3 of Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulation, 2020 from 5:00 am of June 30 to 5:00 am of July 7.


The order prohibits operations of weekly and regular markets, commercial, financial and educational institutions, movement of individuals between 9 pm to 5 am and gathering of 5 or more persons in public places, movement of persons above 65 years of age with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children below the age of 10 years, etc.


The order issued in this regard also said that wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing in public places and offices are compulsory.


The grocery retail stores, vegetables, meat, fruits, milk outlets, animal feeds and agriculture machinery outlets, wholesalers, hardware stores and electrical shops, functioning of shops selling, repairing and servicing of mobile phones, computers, accessories as well as mobile phone recharging centers, stationery shops, motor repairing workshops, dry cleaning, travel agencies, barber shops, restaurants and liquor shops will remain open from 8 am to 3 pm.


The operation of public transport in the district will be regulated by the District Transport Officer and be allowed 50% of vehicles to operate with 50% capacity. The movement of private vehicles will be allowed on odd and even number basis thereby allowing the movement of vehicles with odd numbers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and those with even numbers on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. However, the inter-state movement of vehicles will remain prohibited.


Other permitted activities will remain the same as notified earlier.
