Chief Election Officer (CEO) Nagaland Abhijit Sinha on Thursday confirmed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued directive to suspend and initiate disciplinary course of action against the ADC Tening (RO of 6 Tenning AC) Warren Hollohon Yepthomi and General Observer Rajkumar Beniwal from Gujarat.
The directive was said to be issued in the last week of March.
The suspension order was issued following the error committed during the tabulation in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) General Elections 2018 where candidate Namdaudi Rangaku Zeliang from NPF party was wrongly declared the winning candidate of 6 Tening Assembly Constituency. On March 4, the ECI had directed the cancellation of the declaration and had instructed to declare the correct results and subsequently Namri Nchang from NDPP won the seats by a margin of 168 votes.
“The matter is still under process. Formal suspension orders have not been issued yet,” stated Sinha who also added that the General Observer for that constituency was equally responsible as the RO for ensuring correct accounting.
“A similar instruction has gone to Gujarat to suspend the General Observer and initiate disciplinary course of action. The Gujarat government will take the necessary course of action,” added Sinha.
