Education Minister worried by school drop outs

Dimapur, Sept 29 (MExN): Minister of School & Technical Education, Nagaland Imkong L Imchen today expressed serious concern over the dropout-students index pointing out that “a dropout is a significant problem in the society” and said that due to failure in their academic careers, such drop outs start to drift away from the society and the communities around. Later they become a nuisance to the society by becoming a ‘gangster, thief and an outlaw member of the society.’ He therefore urged the people to ‘bring back’ dropouts in the society with respect and further encouraged the students to utilize the advantage of living in the commercial hub Dimapur. 

The Minister was speaking as Chief Guest during the annual excellence award function of the Ao students Union Dimapur (AKTD) held today at Imliyanger Memorial Centre (IMC) Dimapur. A cash of Rs.50, 000 was donated by the Minister.

Further, speaking on the occasion Imchen exhorted the successful students with words of encouragement saying that success should not be merely seen as an achievement but to use it as a stepping stone to a new beginning. 

Imlitemsu, Chairman, Eastern Christian College, Dimapur who has been donating the prize money to students for the past five years also spoke at the occasion.  The vote of thanks was offered by the AKTD Education & Statistic Secretary. Earlier the Chief Guest gave away the cash prizes and certificate to the successful students. Altogether seven students were felicitated during the the occasion. They are:

1.    Aienla Longchar of Changki village: Top 7th in HSLC exam 2006, NBSE, Christain Mission School, Diphupar

2.    Takutila M Ozukum of Mongsenyimyi village: Top 12th in HSLC, NBSE, St Paul school, Dimapur

3.    Imchalemla of Khensa village, Top 1st Bsc (Agri) NU 2006

4.    Bendangnaro Ozukhum of Waromong village: Top 5th Bsc(Agri)NU 2006
5.    Imlisanen of Nokpu village: Top 1st  in Bachelor of Engineering June 2005, Shantilal Shah Engineering College, Bharnagar University 

6.    Dr.N Moa Imsong of Chuchuyimpang village: Phd, Doctor of Ministry, Institute of Church Management, Chennai.

7.    Dr.Jungmayangla Longkumer of Chagki village, Phd (sociology Department) for his thesis “A Sociological study of an Ao Naga village, A case study of Chanki village” from NEHU.
