
Dimapur, March 24 (MExN): Advocacy workshop on tobacco control laws for the principals and teachers under Niuland subdivision was held at ADC conference hall on March 22. Dr. C Tetseo, District Nodal Officer, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) oriented the teachers on the importance of creating awareness about the ill effects of tobacco consumption. He expressed apprehension that an epidemic is looming large over Nagaland because of the high consumption of tobacco. Therefore, he urged to spread awareness on the impacts of tobacco consumption and health issues associated with it, informed a press release from Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Niuland. Imkum, Psychologist, NTCP gave a detailed presentation on the behavioral pattern of tobacco use in children. V. Lovitoly Sema, ADC Niuland and Piholi, SDEO Niuland also addressed the gathering. The ADC encouraged the teachers to be role models. She further appealed to the gathering to fight against tobacco and its ill effects to make Niuland subdivision a cleaner, healthier sub-division and contribute towards declaring Dimapur a smoke free zone. A large number of teachers from government schools in Niuland subdivision attended the training and assured to put in their best efforts to take the anti-tobacco campaign forward in their respective schools, the release stated.
