A crucial consultative meeting of 8 apex tribal hohos of Nagaland on January 17 has resolved to form a “common apex body for the Nagas of Nagaland at the earliest time” and asked all the NPGs to unite for early and amicable solution to the Naga political issue.

“The 8 tribal hohos of Nagaland demand to all the Naga Political Groups, both underground and overground, to ‘come together’ for an amicable political solution at the earliest,” stated the 4-point resolution passed after the consultative meeting held at the APO Hall, Kohima.

The meeting further resolved that any organisation claiming to “represent and stand for the interests of the Nagas, should be routed and mandated through the tribal apex hohos.”

The hohos attending the meeting were Angami Public Organisation, Ao Senden, Chakhesang People’s Organisation, Lotha Hoho, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, Sumi Hoho and Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation.

The 8 hohos also appealed to all the churches of Nagaland and beyond to pray for the unification and solution of the protracted Naga political issue on January 22, stated a press release issued after the meeting by the Sessional Chairman, Vezuhu Keyho and Sessional Secretary, Dr Vihuto Asumi, Sessional Secretary.

Significantly, however, the resolution did not contain any point on the issue of assembly election in the State.

Batting for the ‘solution before election,’ a proposed 6-hour statewide shutdown of Nagaland on January 14 under the banner of Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC) was deferred.

A statement from the NPAC on January 13 then stated the bandh was deferred after the committee received a request from the Central Nagaland Tribes Council for reviewing the same pending the January 17 consultative meeting of 8 Naga tribes.

However, the release from the 8 apex tribal hohos on Tuesday had no resolution on the issue. It remains to be seen what steps the NPAC would take hereafter.
