
6th edition of the E-Naga Summit held

The 6th edition of the E-Naga Summit under the theme ‘Emerging technologies and its future society’ was organized by the Department of Information and Technology and Communication on December 21.
Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor, IT & C in his message said that the effort in convergence of experts from Europe, Asia and India is a commitment and determination in fulfilling a vision towards making the state the next IT Hub in South-East Asia. He therefore called for support and participation.
The event organized virtually saw expert speakers from across the globe speaking on a range of topics from Software Technology, e-governance, cyber security, consultancy among others.
Liselotte Lyngso, Futurist and future navigator dwelled on ‘Aftershocks and opportunities for a post pandemic future’ presenting a range of strategic principles to take in to navigate the future.
Meanwhile, Dr Omkar Rai, Director General, STPI talked about the future of IT industries in India and the North East in particular. He appreciated the various initiatives taken by the Government of Nagaland to ensure that Nagaland become the next IT hub of southeast Asia.
“We want to become the software product nation,” he said. In this, he also said that Nagaland’s aspiration to be IT Hub of the South East Asia is absolutely genuine and in commensurate with all the ambition of the nation and SPTI.
He said SPTI wants to ensure that India capitalizes on the emerging technologies and its applications in various sectors of knowledge and economy while also creating an environment to be conducive for the IT market.
Dr Rai appreciated the Government of Nagaland for creating space to start the STPI Center in Kohima and also Network Centric Center with well built incubator. He said the center would soon be operational.
Further, the STPI Director General expressed hope that the deliberations of the e-Naga Summit would create the foundation for future policy planning not only for the region but the country in general.
Sara Fernandes, International Consultant on e-Gov, Cyber Security and Smart Cities & Lecturer at University of Minho, Portugal stressed on the concepts on cybersecurity and the need to raise awareness level about cybersecurity issues in governments and businesses. She also spoke about the types of cyber threats, attacks and various approaches to cyber security.
Merle Maigre, Senior Cyber Expert, Estonia spoke on the need to maintain good cyber hygiene at the national, organisational and individual levels.
Nigel Anthony Eastwood, Founder and Group CEO of the New Call Telecom International, Great Britain meanwhile shared his view on the enormous potential of Artificial Intelligence to augment human intelligence and increase efficiency.
Heli Aru-Chabilan, Director of International Affairs Unit, The Education and Youth Authority, Estonia gave a talk on the future of education and gave instances of innovative tools used in Estonia to provide an easy way for parents, teachers and children to collaborate and enable continuous learning even in emergency situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vimal Wakhlu, former Chairman, Telecom Consultancy of India (TCIL) also dwelled on emerging technologies, opportunities and challenges.
Ashok Kumar Seetharaman, Centre Director (eGovernment Leadership Centre), National University of Singapore elaborated on the use of technology for digital government services in Singapore.
KD Vizo, Commissioner and Secretary, IT & Power was the chair for the programme.
He recognised that new technologies are emerging at a very fast pace and there is a need to “balance ourselves so that while we adopt technology for promoting efficiency, accountability and transparency there is also a need to preserve and protect the core human values.”
Altogether 1,111 people participated online in the virtual summit.
