To encourage end of plastics use, women trained to make paper bags

Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): A paper bag making training was conducted for the affiliating units of Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) on July 20 and 21 at DBIDL Hall, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur campus.  

The training was organized by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) in collaboration with NWHD and CAN Youth.

  Altogether, 56 women participated in the training, which aimed to provide livelihood to the participants, promote eco-friendly, and encourage putting an end to plastics use.  

Alice, Marina, and Samuel from CAN Youth conducted the training assisted by interns from Bosco Institute Jorhat, NEF College of Management & Technology, Guwahati, and AIDA IGNOU Dimapur.  

CAN Youth, an NGO based in Dimapur, started promoting paper bag activities in 2015 and has trained more than 30 Self Help Groups (SHGs) and 6 youth organizations, stated a press release from Zhove Lohe, secretary, CAN Youth.   The training began with introductory speech by the Chief Functionary of CAN Youth, Jenpu Rongmei. He spoke on the various environmental issues concerning Nagaland and the urgent need to promote paper bags. The participants were also encouraged to join hands with the DMC for competing in the market arena with their products so that the targets can be achieved. He also urged them to create a history to be the first in making use of the paper bags in the State and to come up with their own brand, the release said.  

Vice President of NWHD, Vimenuo meanwhile motivated the participants to change the Naga concept of satisfaction by earning at once in huge amount. She encouraged the women to acquire all the required skills from the trainers without hesitation and start their own initiatives and to aim for the long run.  

Abeau Mero, entrepreneur & social activist spoke about the changing climate of Dimapur due to environmental pollution and the use of non-recyclable products. She also briefed about the adverse effect of melting of the Himalayan glaciers due to climate change. Mero further highlighted about the upcoming organic project to be launched for the development of rural women.  

Meanwhile, she offered help to the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur and CAN Youth in the future to make Dimapur a clean and healthy place to live in.
