DIMAPUR, AUGUST 17 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union (ENCSU) has extended support to the ‘students movement’ initiated by the All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) on the issue of land encroachment at Kohima Science College (KSC), Jotsoma.
Media Cell, ENCSU in a press release while expressing anguish over the current imbroglio involving the students’ community, asserted that ANCSU's stand was genuine and should be pursued in all circumstances for the sake of students.
The ENCSU also pointed out that the land encroachment issue was taken up in total consensus and coordination with them. It said the union was equally concerned over the issue since it was not only happening with Kohima Science College, Jotsoma alone but in various colleges across Eastern Nagaland.
In this connection, the union has demanded that the state government recover and protect the land encroached from all the government colleges in Nagaland. Meanwhile, the ENCSU expressed dismay over the ultimatum served on ANCSU president by the Jotsoma Village Council (JVC).
The Union reminded that as much as the issue of Kohima Science College land encroachment issue concerns the people of Jotsoma village, the larger interest is the students of Nagaland who are the future of the state. Will not accept scholarship on installment basis.
In another statement, the ENCSU opposed the statement made by the State Government and the Department of Higher Education that the scholarships for the year 2017-18 would be released on installment basis.
The ENCSU recalled that the post-matric scholarship for 2016-17 was released on installment basis after delay for months because the money meant for the students were misused by the state government.
However, this time around, the ENCSU said it will not accept disbursement of scholarships for 2017-18 on installment basis until and unless the department comes up with official notification from the central ministry of tribal affairs.
