ENCSU criticizes government’s silence

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union (ENCSU) has criticized the silence of the Government on the union’s ultimatum submitted on July 26. “It is very surprising to see the attitude of the government towards the deprived people, knowing the fact that the demand of the Union is very genuine and appropriate,” stated a press statement issued by ENCSU Chairman, Longre Chang and Joint Secretary, Nokchem Angth.   In its ultimatum, ENCSU had demanded review of Nagaland State Entrance Examination (NSEE) results 2016.

The union expressed surprise that some government officials instead of addressing the matter are “trying to make the issue complicated by interpreting the laws of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and laws laid down by the state government wrongly.” It questioned the Technical Department and the State government how it is possible to implement two laws from different bodies in one examination.

“If the government and the department are to follow the directive of the MCI then which authority gave the department and the state government to reserve 15% for BT when the MCI notification has mentioned nothing as such?” it asked. If the department and the government are sincere to follow the guideline of the MCI, they should implement it strictly, “but trying to manipulate the rights of the Backward Tribes and making the deprived people scapegoat for personal interest by interpreting the rules of the MCI incorrectly” will not be tolerated, the union asserted.

Also, it added, if the department and the state government are to select the candidates based on merits and as per MCI rules, there is no point of setting up the Common Selection Board (CSB).

ENCSU further maintained that the MCI has nothing to do with the exam conducted by the State Government, however, if the department is to stick with the MCI guidelines then the exam conducted by the state should be cancelled immediately and the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) should be allowed to conduct the exam based on MCI rules like in Bihar.

“An excuse given by the Department with the cut off mark which a candidate has to obtain to qualify for a MBBS and BDS seat is just a make up laws for personal gain by few people,” the release added.

According to the MCI, ENCSU said, students only need to secure 50% and 40% in General and other categories respectively in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in 12th examination. “Then there's no question of conducting state Examination but only nomination by the state government is required as per MCI,” it added.

The union also stated that anyone who has any confusion with its demands are welcome to discuss, “but trying to underestimate the rights of the BT guaranteed by the Constitution with mere allegations will not let ENCSU compromise with our stand and demands.”

It further asked all the College Representatives to keep updated and stay prepared mentally and physically and respond to the union's call at any time positively.

The first phase of action against the Government’s failure to respond to its demands will be informed soon through media after having a consultative meeting with the different Eastern organizations, ENCSU added.
