President, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, said the end of politics is to serve the people and for the welfare of society and not for corruption. The NPCC president also said in a democracy, politics should ensure a conducive and peaceful environment so that every citizen can earn a living to lead a secure and contended life.

Addressing the 28th Fresher’s Day-cum-Annual Gathering of the Chakhesang Students’ Union Dimapur (CSUD) as guest speaker at Town Hall on Saturday, Therie dwelled on the theme of the Fresher’s Day ‘Education for self-reliance’ and said in today’s context, economy has become the epicenter of all activities. He said even education will have no relevance if it cannot equip a person with the skill or ability to earn a livelihood.

Therie said education for the mere sake of acquiring degrees is meaningless and urged the students to be rooted to ground realities so that they would be able to harvest what they have sown or invested in education.

The NPCC president also exhorted the students that no matter what a person pursues or becomes in life – a politician, bureaucrat, businessman or any other profession – he or she should never abandon his or her own culture and traditions, since they form the core of a person’s identity. In this regard, he observed that Chakhesang people are “generally acceptable” to other communities and Naga tribes for their firm rooting in their culture and traditions.

Therie further advised the Chakhesang students and youth to set their eyes and goals beyond state government jobs only.

The NPCC president also released the Constitution of CSUD. A host of invitees and guests including president, Western Chakhesang Hoho, Vekhosayi Nyekha; president Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association Dimapur, Zhothisa Dawhuo; president Western Chakhesang Youth Organization, Likalo Letro, and president, Tenyimia Students’ Union Dimapur, Ao Wetzah, also extended solidarity messages on the occasion.

Earlier, CSUD president, Veseta Rhakho, delivered welcome address; senior pastor CBC Dimapur, Rev. Dr. Weyiete Lohe, invoked God’s blessings and pastor, CBC Toulazouma, Velhuzo Swuro, offered special prayer for the freshers.
