‘Enforce Wildlife Protection Act’

Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): The Additional Principal Chief Conservator of forests & chief wildlife warden, in a circular, notified all concern that hunting of wild animals and birds, and selling of their parts were strictly prohibited under the ‘Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.’ “Selling of meat of wildlife and birds (alive) is in total contravention of the Act. Such offences are punishable under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 with the imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine which may extend to twenty five thousand rupees or with both,” the circular stated. The circular further informed all law enforcement authorities including village authorities to enforce the act in letter and spirit in order to preserve and conserve wildlife in the State.
