Jakhama, March 6 (MExN): The Department of English, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama organized its Annual Theatre Day on March 5 at the college auditorium.
James HK, Head of the Department, presented the Prologue of the day. He said that the great 3Es of theatre are Expression, Entertainment and Education. He cited many inspirational specimens of theatrical skills, including the acting of Leonardo DiCaprio in the ‘The Revenant’, for which he received the Best Actor award in the Oscars 2016. A press release informed that James urged the literary students to learn the theatricals, learn to act and be the best actor that one can ever be; “it saves one’s life and it gains one’s love of a lifetime.”
The VI semester students won the first prize for their reenactment of ‘She Stoops to Conquer’. IV semester section ‘E’ presented ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ winning the second prize. Meanwhile, IV semester section ‘D’ won third prize with its ‘The Duchess of Malfi’. The II semester students presented ‘The Jew of Malta’ and took the fourth position.
The audience was thrilled and enlightened by the incredible performances, the release stated. Many other entertainment items filled in between the shows and scenes.
Earlier, Vikithe Sumi, President of the Department, delivered the welcome address, Audrey hosted the programme, while Anaholi proposed the vote of thanks.
