The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation’s (ENPO) series of Resolution dated 18th December, 2007, which declared its jurisdiction as a Peace Zone is a very laudable effort on the part of the ENPO leadership of the day. It was a responsible decision for the common interest and welfare of its citizens. Eastern Naga National Workers Association (ENNWA) is however, deeply shocked over the recent media caption that appeared in Nagaland post dated 30th December, 2011 which read “ENPO NOT TO CO-OPERATE WITH GPRN/NSCN”. The decision is highly questionable and unacceptable to a reasoned mind. It is fraught with danger without plausible explanation. Is ENPO’s justified in condemning GPRN/NSCN as the violator of its Peace Zone without knowing the actual incident?
The Eastern Naga National Worker’s Association (ENNWA) had an emergency meeting at the Oking represented by every region on 6th Jan. 2012, to stress on the few incidents that had occurred within ENPO jurisdiction in the aftermath of 2007 declaration.
1. In 2008, Lieut. Col. Kito was shot dead at Nagnimora.
2. In 2009, Mr. Rithrongkiu Yimchunger, Tatar of the GPRN/NSCN was shot dead in Tuengsang District.
3. In 2011, Brigader Khungwang of GPRN/NSCN was shot dead near Mon town.
4. In 2011, a lady was injured at Tizit town.
5. In 2011, a shop keeper was shot and wounded at Kiphire town.
6. In 2011, Mr. Likhum, former tribal President was arrested at gun-point.
7. in 2011, the house of the Chairman of the Chang Region, GPRN/NSCN was raided, where six (6) arms were seized by anti-peace group.
8. Again in 2011, Gen. Kholi Konyak’s camp was raided by anti peace group and confiscated all his properties.
Where were ENPO leaders, when such act of terror was being committed against its own peoples in its very own kitchen? The ENNWA demands to know.
The awarding of capital punishment to one GPRN/NSCN cadre late Tsilongse Sangtam near Kuthur village is purely an internal affair of the GPRN/NSCN which befits the treachery and betrayal committed by the deceased on a number of occasions. It was not a fratricidal killing that violated the peaceful atmosphere under ENPO jurisdiction. It was more of an eradication of a stagnant object that was polluting the Naga national movement and destroying Naga community as a whole. The punishment ordered because of the many anti-party and anti-social acts committed and it was, unfortunately, a negative fulfilment of the Oath he had taken at the time of Joining the National Service. Regretfully, ENNWA notes the many anti-national activities committed by late Tsilongse whereby, his crimes invited the highest punishment.
1. On the 15th of September, 2009, late Tsilongse, defected to NSCN (IM) with two arms.
2. He again rejoined with four arms from NSCN (IM) on 11th of June, 2011.
3. On 6th of September, 2011, late Tsilongse, during his commandership at Yemrup Village lost one weapon, which was later discovered that he sold it for his personal benefit.
4. On the 2nd of December, 2011, He tried to snatch a weapon from the guard on duty at the residence of 2nd in command of 2nd Brigade, Naga Army, to surrender to anti-peace elements.
The ENNWA accepts the fact that the 30th Dec. Statement was issued in the name of ENPO by few misled leaders without the consent and against the wishes of the Eastern Naga Peoples, trying to sow hatred and division among different Naga political groups. Our question is, why should ENP be led by few disgraced individuals who find pleasure through bloodshed and killings? Why should ENPO’s good name and image be sacrificed to further anti peace policy of a particular group who renounced Naga Reconciliation? Will the ENPO bear the responsibility of re-introducing hostility among Naga brothers? ENNWA believes the real ENPO leaders should identify the wolves in sheep skin. ENNWA will no longer remain a mute spectator but shall be compelled to condemn destructive policies while encouraging the right decision for the welfare of the people.
It has become pertinent for the ENNWA to inform the general Eastern Naga public that, henceforth, any resolution or policies made by any organisation concerning the Political future of Eastern Naga People without the knowledge of Gen. (Rtd) Khole Konyak, President, GPRN, Mr. Hothrong Yim, Kilo Kilonser, GPRN and Gen. Neokpao Konyak, Commander-in-Chief, Naga Army, shall be considered null and void.
ENNWA have thoroughly examined the intentions of certain individuals shouting in the name ENPO but factually destroying ENPO and therefore would not hesitate to expose those individuals to the ENPO public and the Nagas. Exemplary punishments shall be initiated if their evil designs are not stopped.
ENNWA demands that before further confusion is created, ENPO should make its stand clear before the Naga People whether their stand is for the sovereignty of Naga nation or separate statehood alone. Undermining Naga sovereignty with ‘Frontier Nagaland’ problem will be a blunder in Naga history. Therefore, it will be much better reasonable for the ENPO not to venture into Naga Political struggle without understanding the differences.
The urgent and immediate need of the Nagas at this juncture is to struggle for ‘Peace’. We are all after it yet peace seems to be so slippery and elusive. We ourselves are to blame for it. Every NGO, Civil Society and public leader must speak the truth in the interest of all Nagas. Pampering one faction on communal and tribal line will not bring peace in Nagaland. WNNWA will not allow individual interest to supplant common Naga objective.
