ENPO, KSU condemn ITC Pangsha incident

Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) and the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) have condemned the recent “firing and bomb blast" incident on September 11 at ITC (International Trade Centre) DAN, near Pangsha, under Noklak sub-division.

Expressing pain over the incident, the ENPO in a press note issued by its Media Cell informed that the “Assam Rifles Command Post came under attack, and almost causing casualties in the neighboring civilian inhabited areas by some armed elements reportedly due to indiscriminate firing and explosions from across the Indo – Myanmar border.”

“It is to be mentioned that whether it is accidental or otherwise, this extremely unfortunate incident is beyond tolerance,” it added.

ENPO further stated that line with the principles of December 18, 2007 Tuensang resolution, the public of Eastern Nagaland is deeply opposed to any form of arm conflicts and violence within ENPO jurisdiction.

In this regard, it resolved to “continue to appeal all armed people to maintain peace & tranquility, and to honor the same in the interest of peace and harmony in the region.”

The KSU has vehemently condemned the recent incident between NSCN (K) and Assam Rifles. In a press note issued by its KSU General Secretary Puthai and Vice President H Mucho, the union also expressed strong displeasure to learn about stray bullets “straightway hitting Mission School and shelling at innocent residence.”

Such incidents have induced “fear psyche and tension among the residents of the area and the students in particular,” it added.

The KSU also urged the responsible to avoid such kind of activities as it hampers the peaceful existence of the villagers and the students’ community.

“Render their valuable services in the field of education, developmental activities, human resource development instead of exhibiting war and bloodshed in Khiamniungan area,” the union said.

“The Khiamniungan have been deprived of modern education and technological advancement for many decades and they would not be able to move along with the other Naga fellows if war and bloodsheds still continue in the area, rather it will drag us back to the primitive age,” it added.

“The student community is totally against of such activities as it hinders the progress of human existence.” In this regard, it appealed “all the responsible to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the area and refrain from creating such incidence in the near future considering the innocent publics and the students.”
