ENPUD concerned over situation in Sangtemtilla

Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur (ENPUD) has expressed that it is seriously viewing the prevailing situations at Sangtemtilla village under Dimapur district.

The ENPUD in a press release alleged that a few “vested interest individuals/parties” are trying to encroach upon the Sangtemtila village jurisdiction boundary line with the sole intention of occupying the said stretch of plot/land.

The union informed that it had learned from records (both written documents and oral) that Sangtemtila village which was established in the year 1951 prior to attainment of Nagaland statehood. The village is bounded by Thahekhu village on North, Dhansiri river on East, Railway on West and Tilla Bosti of Karbi Anglong Assam on South. “They have been maintaining peace and was living harmoniously with Tilla village and other neighbouring villages without any dispute for more than 60 years now,” it added.

Pointing out that in the context of Nagaland, there can be no single plot of land, forest or jungle without having owners either individual, clan or community, the union argued, “Encroachment upon others land without any authenticated proof and documentary evidence cannot be justified and is therefore, illegal.”

The ENPUD further informed that it held consultations and interactions with members of both Sangtemtila and Tilla Bosti and learnt that both the villages have been maintaining cordial relationship without any fear and tension with well demarcated boundary line “except or despite certain mutual lease agreement between this two villages which was said to have been entered with mutual understanding.”

Stating that the present situation created by some vested interested persons has now created fear and tension to the peaceful village dwellers, the ENPUD on behalf of the eastern people living within Dimapur district appealed to the people concerned in the issue to restrain from such move in the larger interest of justice and also to maintain peaceful and harmonious relation amongst the Naga brethren in general. The Union also appealed the district administration to take up the matter for early amicable solution.
