ENSF rejects Nagaland Backward Tribes Commission

Demands State Government to initiate necessary corrective measures within 10 days

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) along with its federating units has rejected the constitution of the Nagaland Backward Tribes Commission (NBTC) in its present form.

A representation addressed to the Nagaland Chief Minister by ENSF president, Sepili L. Sangtam and general secretary, Imtichoba Chang reminded that the State Government and the Federation had jointly agreed to sign an agreement on August 13, 2015 wherein it was agreed by the government in principle to constitute the Commission with special focus for six backward tribes of Eastern Nagaland.

The two parties had also agreed to work out the modalities of the Commission jointly i.e, between the State Government and the ENSF. However, the State Government had conveniently failed to take the agreement under consideration and intentionally ignored the Federation while framing the Commission, the representation lamented. It also alleged that the State Government had also totally sidelined and unheeded the core features of the agreement in the Commission.

In this connection, the representation said the Federation along with 6 federating units has unanimously resolved not to accept the constitution of the Commission in its present form until necessary corrective measures are initiated by the State Government in consonance with the Agreement.

Further, the Federation also demanded that the State Government initiate immediate rectification process in order to rectify errors so that the “gentleman agreement is upheld, honored and respected by both the parties.”

It said the same should be completed within 10 days (w.e.f. November 24, 2017) and re-introduced in the upcoming Winter Season of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) to pass the Bill.
