Tuensang, October 26 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) has expressed serious concern over the ongoing pen-down strike, citing its adverse impact on public service and daily life.
In a statement, ENSF highlighted that the strike has disrupted the normal functioning of public offices, causing undue hardship to citizens.
While recognising employees’ right to voice grievances, the federation stressed that such protests must be conducted within the framework of the law and established service conduct.
“Public servants, as custodians of public trust, have a duty to ensure that citizens do not suffer disruption in availing essential public services, regardless of the reasons for which the strike has been called,” the ENSF statement said. It further emphasised that constructive engagement, formal representation, and dialogue within service frameworks are the most responsible and effective ways to address grievances.
The federation also reaffirmed its confidence in the government’s decisions, noting that every administrative measure is presumed to follow due process, consultation, and consideration of public interest.
It further reiterated that any grievances or dissatisfactions should be pursued through the institutional and procedural mechanisms available within the service framework—such as formal representation, consultation, and dialogue—rather than through actions that disrupt administrative functioning or impede public service delivery. Constructive engagement within the bounds of law and service conduct remains the most responsible and effective means to address differences and safeguard collective interests, the federation held.
Calling for urgent action, ENSF urged employees in the eastern region to withdraw from the strike and resume normal duties to restore office functioning and ensure uninterrupted public service.
The ongoing pen-strike has been called by the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on IAS induction comprising of Confederation of All Nagaland State Service Employees’ Association (CANSSEA), Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA), Nagaland Finance & Accounts Services Association (NF&ASA), Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association (NIDA), and Nagaland Secretariat Service Association (NSSA).
While continuing the ‘pen-strike,’ the JCC on Friday announced that the proposed “tools down” strike from October 27 has been put on hold following a meeting with the Nagaland Chief Secretary, pending the Cabinet’s decision on the selection of non-SCS officers into the IAS.
