ESSU ‘to initiate own course of action’

Dimapur, February 1 (MExN): The Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) today stated that it “is constrained to initiate its own course of action” in regard to the incomplete school building construction under SDEO Aghunato, Zunheboto.

The ESSU in a letter written to the State Mission Director Samagra Shiksha stated that it is initiating the action “upon inability of your authority to keep the agreement.”

The Union highlighted that in response to the ultimatum served by the union on August 5, 2020, the team of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland led by Jt Mission Director held a meeting with ESSU to discuss and resolve on the issue on August 9, 2020 at Shevishe Village, Aghunato.

The meeting concluded with an agreement that, as demanded by the ESSU, the incomplete school buildings at Ngozubo, Shevishe, Kelto and Viyilho village would be completed by January 2021. As incorporated in the agreement that ESSU be assigned to monitor the progress of the works, the ESSU had closely monitored the construction of these school buildings for over the past five months in order to facilitate timely completion.

“The ESSU is grateful for completion of building construction of GMS Viyilho and GMS Kelto even though other components as specified in the work orders have not been added,” it stated. In the other two schools GMS Ngozubo and GMS Shevishe the works have stopped.

Despite ESSU’s consistent reminder to responsible authority to resume the work, no action has been taken, the Union stated while adding that it “is dismayed upon the authority in dishonouring the agreement which is an act of insincerity and betrayal upon the people of our area. This act of the responsible authority has shattered the good image of one of the premier institutions of the State in delivering justice to its citizens.”

The ESSU has also issued representations regarding non construction of GPS Hoshepu (A) on August 21, 2020 and November 30, 2020 addressed to your authority. “The Union is surprised to see the lackadaisical response of the appropriate authority despite knowing the fact that the school building construction has not been stated for more than a decade after being sanctioned,” it stated.

It also stated that the ESSU has time and again issued appeals and demands explicitly stating the inordinate delay in the construction, thereby denying basic right of the upcoming generation to grow and excel.

“Therefore, the Union has no other option than to initiate its own course of action for failure of your authority in addressing the following demands of the ESSU.”

The Union demands include completion of school building constructions as per the specification and as per August 19 agreement timeline; appropriate action against erring officials and intimate to the office of the ESSU Hqrs Aghunato; Initiate construction of GPS Hoshepu (A).

“The Union shall not be held responsible in case any untoward incident happens during the course of its agitation,” it added.
