EUUN knock NSF door on age limit

Dimapur, September 4 (MExN): The Educated Unemployed Union of Nagaland has written to the Naga Students’ Federation to table the matter regarding extension of upper age-limit and retirement age for government employees, in the Federation’s next federal Assembly, for decision.

A letter addressed to the Speaker of the NSF from the union’s acting-president Achilo Thong mentioned that the number of over-aged educated unemployed persons has increased. The union explained that the upper age-limit for Nagaland is 30 years which mean 30 plus years educated unemployed would be ineligible for government jobs in the prime of their life notwithstanding their educational qualifications. The EUUN informed that in Himachal Pradesh it is 40, West Bengal-37, Maharastra-38, Andhra Pradesh-34, and both Jharkhand and Rajasthan have upper age-limit of 35. A majority of the educated unemployed have become over-aged and their number is increasing. In this regard the EUUN stated that five years extension from 30 to 35 would be right. However, it opined that extension of the upper age limit is not possible without extension of the retirement age. Therefore the corresponding extension of three years from 57 to 60 years must be granted, the EUUN stated to the Federation.

The union also informed of the representation to the Governor of Nagaland highlighting the six-point demands submitted to the Prime Minister of India, creation of a departmental staff selection board, a state self-employment board and extension of upper age-limit and retirement age. The union observed that entering into government service with bogus educational documents and tampering of age has added to the ever-increasing employment. This evil must be stopped, the EUUN urged the NSF.
