Evening with Easterine Kire and youth from Town Baptist Church

Youth from the Town Baptist Church enacted a play written by author and playwright Easterine Kire here today.   The play was about King Solomon and his concubines, of how he would be entertained by the women in his court and the King then being discontented would blame everything on vanity.   The play was followed by the author giving a peek and letting us see through her imagination into issues like disability, bullying and social segregation of people who tend to be a little different. She also introduced her new book ‘Son of the Thundercloud’. It was published in 2016 by Speaking Tiger Publishing Private Limited, New Delhi.   The book, she said, is an allegory of Jesus Christ growing up as a Naga boy, an attempt made to intertwine traditional folk lore with other stories. Kire also talked about her poem The Angles of Prostitutes, wherein she mentioned how the marginalized live a terrible life being neglected and hated by the society and that we as a society should always love and accept them as our own.   “If you believe in it, it would happen,” said the author as she encouraged the young students to write about things around them and to put their imagination to paper. If you want to become an author, she exhorted the youth, you must begin to write at an early age, even if it means a daily diary entry. Writing, she explained, needs as much practice as math or science.
