Dimapur, September 21 (MExN): Ex-servicemen rallies were held in Wokha and Tuensang on September 19 and 20 respectively.
The rally for Wokha district was organised by the Indian Army in coordination with Zilla Sainik Board of Wokha district at 28 Assam Rifles’ location. Inaugurating the rally, Col Neeraj Dhawan of 44 Mountain Brigade extended a warm welcome to veterans, Veer Naaris and their dependents. He complimented the Zilla Sainik Board for coordinating the rally and addressing welfare issues of the veterans and Veer Naaris. During the meet, the veterans were also educated on various pension related issues, including OROP. More than 160 veterans and Veer Naaris attended the programme. The event had provided a platform to refresh and strengthen the bond between the veterans and their Army, stated a press release from Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence).
In Tuensang, the rally was organised by 40 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 7 Sector for ex-servicemen, Veer Naaris and war widows of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, and Mokokchung districts. Brig Maninder Singh Sidhu, Commander, 7 Sector Assam Rifles in his inaugural address informed about the various benefits and welfare schemes launched for the participants. He assured that Assam Rifles will always stand by the veterans and continue to work for their uplift and well being, according to a press release.
The event, attended by 146 ex-servicemen, Veer Naaris and war widows, had various activities, including a presentation by Tuensang Horticulture Department on post retirement plans, DGAR presentation by representative from Shillong to apprise veterans of benefits and entitlements available for them, Khiamniungan tribal dance, and a Pipe Band display by 40 Assam Rifles.
During the event, one Shaurya Chakra awardee, six Veer Naaris and three battles causalities were felicitated and all other veterans were given souvenirs. The rally also included a medical and dental camp, canteen facilities counter and a feast for all.
