Excise dispose impounded liquor and drugs worth over 38 lakhs

The Directorate of Excise, Nagaland on November 26 disposed confiscated contrabands estimated to be worth over Rs 38 lakhs in Dimapur. The smuggled goods comprising an assortment of 18,079 bottles of liquor and 6475 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, besides, ganja, spasmo proxyvon, nitrazepam and brown sugar was bulldozed and buried within the Directorate compound.
According to the Directorate of Excise and Prohibition, the contrabands were seized by Dimapur district-based Excise units – Superintendent of Excise, Dimapur; Narcotic Cell and Mobile Squad – during November 2018 to October 2019.
As per a report of the Dimapur Superintendent of Excise, the unit’s personnel affected a catch of 7928 bottles of liquor estimated to be worth Rs 8, 91,800 from November 2018-October 2019. It registered 370 offences under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, while collecting Rs 7, 73,000 as monetary penalty from the offenders.
The catch made by the Narcotic Cell (NC) unit of the district from January to October 2019 included 2838 bottles of liquor, 30kg ganja, 31.8gm brown sugar, 44368 spasmo proxyvon pills, 283 nitrazepam tablets and 6225 bottles of cough syrup. A total of 13 drug offences were registered during the period. As per the NC’s report, the net value of the seized drugs and liquors were estimated to be around Rs 19 lakhs.
The district Mobile Squad’s tally from February 2019 to October 2019 included 7313 bottles of liquor and 250 bottles of cough syrup estimated to be worth Rs 10, 57,120. The unit’s report said that it registered 307 offences and arrested as many persons under the NLTP Act, while collecting Rs 3, 07,000 as penalty. It registered one drug case and arrested one person. The seized liquor and drug was estimated to be worth Rs 10, 57,120.
