The mega event of Mokokchung M-Fest today kicked off in style with MLA Toshipokba Longkumer flagging off the Christmas Bike rally at the inaugural programme. The three day event which will culminate on December 15 will feature a lot of competitions, exhibitions and different stalls selling food stuffs and a grand mela. Adding to the grandeur of the M-Fest 2011, the Mokokchung District Arts and Culture Council (MDACC – the organizer of the M-Fest) have collaborated with the newly flouted Mokokchung Photography Club (MPC) and have organized the first of its kind photo and painting contest during a M-Fest.
The photo and painting exhibition contest has been organized on the theme ‘Faces and People’ and the Mokokchung Photography Club has established a Photo gallery at the Sports Complex. The Mokokchung Photography Club which is taking the main initiative in organizing the contest is overwhelmed with the number of contestants who have given their entries for the contest and exhibition.
Altogether thirteen photo enthusiasts have submitted their photos for the photo contests. Most of the competitors are young school students who are young photo enthusiasts. Besides, five artists have also submitted their entries for the painting competition.
“Through this competition we are hopeful to encourage the young talented people to take up photography in the days to come,” commented Imnaonen Pongen, the MPC coordinator for the competition.
“I feel delighted that though the competition was organized on a short notice, we have a lot of entrants, and we hope that it will continue in the days to come, for the Mokokchung Photography Club, we will be working towards the promotion of photography even in the future,” the MPC coordinator added.
Meanwhile, members of the Mokokchung Photography Club have also submitted more than twenty photographs to be exhibited in the gallery. The photos will be exhibited and auctioned during the M-Fest; MDACC officials disclosed that sold items will be given off to the highest bidder on the last day.
The MDACC will be awarding a cash prize Rs 5000, Rs 3000, and Rs 2000 with certificates to the winners of the first, second and third places in the photo and painting competition respectively. The Convener of the Mokokchung Photography Club, Imnaonen Pongen has invited all visitors to visit the MPC Photo Gallery and relish the “beauty of Mokokchung captured through the lens of creativity”.
