Fake certificate racket busted

Dimapur, June 8 (MExN): In a major breakthrough, police on Monday, June 8, busted a fake vehicle registration and insurance papers racket being run under the cover of a pharmacy (‘Sumi Health Care’) located at MST Road, Dimapur. 

The Superintendent of Police of Dimapur briefed media persons at the East Police station. Following a tip-off, he said, Dimapur police led by the OC of East police station raided the pharmacy. In the process, the police arrested two persons from the spot. They were identified as a Kakishe Assumi (30 yrs) son of one Nivito Assumi of Litami village (Zunheboto) presently at Thilixu village and a Sayan Acharjee (32 yrs), son of one Sudhir Acharjee of Hojai (Nawgaon), presently residing at MST Road in Dimapur. The kingpin of the illegal racket one Kiyeto Zhimomi son of a Vikheshe of Kuhuboto is absconding. He is said to be a resident of Thilixu village. 

One grey-coloured Mahindra Scorpio (NL 08 0251), with no registration documents, was also seized by the police from the place of the raid.  It was said to belong to one of the accused, Kakishe Assumi. According to the accused it was said to have been bought from Kohima only a few days ago but police suspect it to be a stolen vehicle. It has the following engine and chassis numbers: BD 34f41948 and MA1TA2BDC32F81084 respectively.  

According to the confessions of the arrested persons, it was learned that they have been in the illegal trade for the last two to three years. The kingpin Kiyeto Zhimomi is said to have been a former evangelist associated with one of the churches in Dimapur. He was, however, expelled from the church, it was informed. The racketeers charged Rs 1000 for a fake vehicle registration certificate, Rs 3000 for registration with insurance certificate while Rs 500 was charged for a fake driving licence doctored by them, it was learned.

Several fake seals and documents, especially of the Transport department (MV) of Nagaland and other states, insurance companies, computers and printers and inkjet papers used for duplication  were seized by the police. Prominent among the seized items were the seals of the OC East PS Dimapur, RTO Kohima, DTO Dimapur, Superintendent of Police, pastor of Spirit of Faith Church, New India Assurance Co. Ltd, Dimapur, RTO RSTA  Thimpu among others. Besides, various blank fake copies of pollution control certificate of Asansol and Malda districts of West Bengal were also among the seized items.
