World Population Day and Population Stabilization Fortnight
Peren, July 15 (MExN): In observation of World Population Day & Population Stabilization Fortnight, free Family Planning camps are being held at Community Health Centre (CHC) Jalukie and District Hospital, Peren, where beneficiaries are provided free sterilization along with incentives and transportation cost. Meanwhile, the other 24 health units in the district (Peren) are providing free family services such as IUCD, condoms, OCP, ECP.
The programme, which began on July 11 under the theme ‘Starting a meaningful tomorrow with Family Planning’, will culminate on July 24.
According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), this internationally celebrated event aims to spread awareness on issues such as overpopulation, under-population and birth control, stated a press release from Pezanguno Celine Secü, District Media Officer, CMO office, Peren.
It also quoted UNPF that Family Planning is not only a matter of human right, but is also central to women empowerment, reducing poverty and achieving sustainable growth. “It should be acceptable in the sense that contraceptives services and information should be provided in a dignified manner respecting both modern medical ethics and the cultures of those accommodated.”
The release further informed that workforce under the Chief Medical Officer’s office, Peren focusing on the Information, Education and Communication strategies have been organising mobilization and intensive awareness since June 24 targeting the grassroots level. ASHAs have been conducting interpersonal communication in all the villages, it added.
Health workers are conducting counselling in their respective health units and also distributing IEC materials in local dialect apart from family planning services, it was informed.
Focus group discussions are also being conducted by the ASHA coordinators in all the 4 blocks, while Miking has been carried out in Peren Town and Jalukie Town for information.
The workforce will continue the intensive awareness so also providing free family planning services till July 24. So far, 21 laparoscopic and 3 IUCDs have been done and 298 condoms, 72 OCPs and 14 ECPs have been distributed, according to the release.
The sterilization camp for District Hospital, Peren is fixed for July 17, while Family Planning camp was held at CHC Jalukie on July 13.
