Medziphema, June 7 (MExN): Two-day farmers’ training on horticulture crops was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema in collaboration with the Horticulture Research Farm (HRF), Pfutsero on May 19 and 20. The chairperson, Senti Longchar, Horticulture Officer (HRF) highlighted about the activities of CIH and HRF for the benefit of the farming community. Moalemba, DHO Phek, exhorted and advised the farmers to have crop selections according to the geographical and climatic conditions of the regions.
Meanwhile, Tiakaba Longchar spoke on the importance, scope and cultivation practices of kiwi fruit in Nagaland. Ngupetso, a progressive kiwi farmer from Pfutsero spoke on the constraints of kiwi fruit cultivation in Nagaland. Then, Rajpal Singh from Global Agri. System and Campbell Tacon from Grow it, Kiwi Solutions, New Zealand spoke and interacted with the participants regarding problems, constraints and marketing of kiwi fruit in the country.
The programme was followed by a field visit to ‘Rhakho Kiwi Nursery’ and ‘Kiwi Farm School’, Pfutsero. More than 50 farmers participated in the training, out of which 20 were from ECS Tuensang.
